Kim Seekman writing as Roxie Maxx

Kim Seekman

Kim Seekman writes cozy mysteries under the pen name Roxie Maxx, bringing to life the fictional town of Whiskey Pines, Michigan, where old secrets hide in Prohibition-era tunnels, women crafters solve crimes between stitches, and a witty heroine with a telepathic dog unravels mysteries that have haunted her family for generations.

But before Kim created Roxie, she spent decades creating something else: the foundation of modern digital publishing itself.

From Linotype to Laptop

Linotype machine

A Linotype machine, where Kim's publishing journey began at age seven

Kim's publishing journey began at age seven in the family newspaper business. She ran a hot lead Linotype, setting type for short articles and a section dedicated to Birthday Greetings. She also acted as courier, carrying freshly folded newspapers across the building to be stamped with subscriber names and addresses. The smell of ink and the rhythm of the press became her first language.

That early immersion in the mechanics of publishing sparked a lifelong fascination with how stories reach readers. From hot lead to pixels, Kim has been there for every transformation.

Why Cozy Mysteries?

After producing over 4,000 published books for others, Kim turned to writing her own. The Roxie Maxx series draws on her Michigan roots, her love of crafting communities, and her belief that the best mysteries are solved by clever women who notice what others overlook.

The Whiskey Pines Mysteries blend Prohibition-era intrigue with present-day secrets. The Pines & Needles Crafting Colony Mysteries celebrate the world of quilters, knitters, and makers, where gossip flows freely and every dropped stitch tells a story. Both series feature Roxie Maxx, a witty, sharp-eyed heroine with emerald green eyes, a complicated family legacy, and a telepathic Bichon Frise named Kenzie who provides sardonic commentary from her past life as a 1920s speakeasy waitress.

Kim brings the same pioneering spirit to fiction that she brought to publishing. Just as she saw the future of digital books before anyone else, she now crafts stories that honor tradition while embracing innovation, creating immersive experiences through her mBoox™ interactive multimedia editions.

The Woman Behind Roxie

Kim lives in Michigan with her family, surrounded by the same small-town warmth and lakeside beauty that inspires the fictional Whiskey Pines. When she's not writing, she can be found crafting, exploring the dunes, or dreaming up new mysteries for Roxie to solve.
